Frontier Command

Frontier Command puts you in charge of settlements on a hostile border, balancing resources, defense, and expansion. It's real-time but pauses cleanly, so you're never punished for putting your phone down mid-decision. The core loop of scout, build, defend, repeat gets its hooks in fast.

What impressed us is how readable the interface is on a small screen. Strategy games often cram too much in, but here the important numbers are always visible and the controls never fight you. The difficulty curve is fair, with optional harder modes for people who want to be punished.

It can get repetitive in the late game once you've mastered the economy, but the campaign has enough variety to carry you a long way before that happens.
